SpongeBob SquarePants is a famous T.V. series that airs on Nickelodeon. It has ran since 1999 with Help Wanted and is still airing today. It has a total of 248 ordered episodes with 180 aired. It is Nick's longest series surpassing Rugrats. The series shows the adventures of Spongebob Squarepants, Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, Squidward Tentacles, Eugene Krabs, Plankton, Gary, and lots of other fish living under the sea. It takes place in Bikini Bottom, a town which population has changed over the year with different citizens moving in and out because of different events including global warming, destruction, or even some push factors. Spongebob is the main character in the series while Patrick serves as his best friend and the secondary character. Squidward serves as a main character with the second most appearances, to the surprise of many, topping Patrick, Mr. Krabs, and Sandy. Sandy is a land squirrel and thus needs an air helmet to breath under water. She lives in a tree dome with air, thus causing a problem for sea creatures that can't breathe air. Mr. Krabs is the owner of the Krusty Krab, Bikini Bottom's most famous eatery, and is a very cheep crab. Plankton is the main antagonist who tries to steal Mr. Krab's famous Krabby Patty recipe in many attempts. Spongebob, of coarse, is the main character that lives in a pineapple next to Squidward and down the street from Patrick. He is a fry cook at the Krusty Krab, who also likes jelly fishing, karate, blowing bubbles, playing as his favorite superheros, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, and doing his job. He has a pet snail Gary, who often speaks in meows, and tries to care for him deeply. Patrick is Spongebob's best friend, whom of which also lives down the street from as fore mentioned. He lives in a rock and is widely considered the dumbest character in the series. He, like Spongebob, enjoys jelly fishing and blowing bubbles, but hasn't done the other things Spongebob does as much or at all. Squidward lives next door to both Spongebob and Patrick, but doesn't like to do any of the things that they do, and is thus often annoyed by them. He loves playing his clarinet and making self-portrait.

Stephen Hillenburg, creator of Rocko's Modern Life, which ended in 1996, wanted a new series to represent something good. He brought together some old friends help him create some ideas and thus the ideas for Spongebob were created. Originally, Spongebob was going to be named Spongeboy, but due to the fact that the name was copyrighted from previous use it was changed to Spongebob. This is referenced when Mr. Krab jokingly calls Spongebob by, "Spongeboy, me Bob", in Squeaky Boots. They worked on Help Wanted, finished it and presented it to Nick. Nick accepted it along with its partners, Reef Blower and Tea at the Tree Dome. The original series ran for three seasons, ending with rumors of a movie in late 2003.

Then, Season Four began airing with Fear of a Krabby Patty in 2005, but Hillenburg and many of the shows historians did not return for the revived series. Spongebob was renewed for a fifth season, which ended in 2009. Season Six began airing in 2008, and Spongebob was renewed for a seventh season in 2009, and began airing in 2010. Before the end of it, season 8 was announced for 2010 release. Season 8 began airing in 2011, and ended in 2012. Season Nine was announced mid season. Mermaid Man's voice actor died in July 2012, and it was announced that Joe White, known for voicing Mermaid Man on several video games, would take over for him. Season Nine began airing in July 2012 and were the first episodes to be shown in the widescreen format since Truth or Square. Production of the Spongebob Squarepants Movie: Sponge Out of Water halted production mid-season, and many original historians returned for the second half of the season which began airing in late-2015. Season Ten was announced back in 2012, and began airing in 2016.
